Our Story

Dylan’s Den was founded in June 2008 by parents of Treorchy Primary School after the news that the current after school provision was closing. With no other childcare options 6 parents came together and  Dylan’s Den was born as a not-for-profit social enterprise, in just 6 weeks. It has since been run by a group of Volunteer Directors, some of which still sit on the board of Directors today.

Since opening Dylan’s Den has grown from an After School Club setting to a setting which provides various sessions including the addition of Holiday Club in 2011 and a Playgroup and wrap around in 2014.

Along the way we have secured grants and funding which supports the growth of Dylan’s Den including an extensive refurbishment in 2021. As a not-for-profit all funds are put back into the development of our services to constantly better the experiences we offer.

Dylan's Den - About Us

Our Vision

Our Vision

We want Dylan’s Den to be a place where every child wants to play, offering a stimulating, safe, caring, and friendly environment where they can have fun. We support parents and carers by helping them access work and training, knowing their children are well cared for. We promote community self‑help and contribute to local economic wellbeing. We follow best practice, value our staff , and are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring equal opportunities for all.

Our Mission

To sustain the use of places across all our settings and continue delivering our Sustainable Places Programme with support from external funders. We aim to raise our profile by taking part in community events and using social media and our website to promote Dylan’s Den. We also plan to strengthen our already positive relationship with Treorchy Primary School.

Our Strategy

Dylan’s Den will continue to prioritise staff wellbeing and keep our training plan up to date. We remain professionally curious to safeguard the children in our care and aim to recruit high‑quality staff, volunteers, and Board Directors. Children will help shape Dylan’s Den so it reflects what they want. We will promote our not‑for‑profit status, the 30‑hour childcare offer, and our Registered Education Provider and Flying Start status so families can access funding.
